Beauty Services - new traineeship vocations The Commissioner for Vocational Training, in consultation with the NSW Wholesale, Retail and Personal Services Industry Training Advisory Body, has replaced the existing traineeship vocation of Beauty Services with the new traineeship vocations of:
The VTOs specify a number of matters including the term of training, probationary period, competency outcome and course of study to be undertaken. The VTOs supporting the traineeship vocations are at Attachment A. WRB04 Beauty Therapy Training Package WRB04 includes nine qualifications ranging from Certificate II to Diploma level and offers training in nail technology, make-up services, retail cosmetic services, beauty services and beauty therapy. The beauty industry provides a range of specialised assessment and clinical services to clients from very small businesses to larger enterprises operating in both cities and remote areas. The industry also has a retail focus through the sale of home care products via salons and retail cosmetics and skin care products through pharmacies and large department stores. Qualifications There is no change to the Nail Technology and Retail Cosmetic Services qualifications. Make-up services is a new traineeship qualification. For the purpose of the revised VTOs, Beauty Services trainees in New South Wales will be able to gain the following qualifications:
* New traineeship The packaging and structure requirements for the qualifications that apply to the VTOs are at Attachment B. Job description Nail Technology trainees will learn how to provide a variety of manicure and pedicure services in a salon and/or retail environment. They will also learn client communication strategies, how to sell nail products and services and to apply a knowledge of nail science to nail services. Make-up Services trainees will learn to design and apply make-up for a range of purposes and in a range of situations - for example, for day or bridal wear through to specialised make-up for glamour photography for film and television. Graduate trainees will be able to work in a beauty salon/store environment or as independent make-up artists. Retail Cosmetic Services trainees will learn the fundamentals of retail operations as they apply to selling skin care products and cosmetics. They will also learn how to demonstrate the use of a range of skin care products and cosmetics as well as designing and applying make-up. Industrial arrangements Applications under the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act 2001 to establish any apprenticeship or traineeship will not be approved unless the Commissioner for Vocational Training is satisfied that appropriate industrial arrangements are in place. Industrial arrangements under which Beauty Services trainees can be employed are listed at Attachment C. School Based Traineeships The NSW Wholesale, Retail and Personal Services Industry Training Advisory Body has recommended these qualifications as suitable for delivery in schools:

Learning resources and assessment materials Service Skills Australia sells a full set of all 40 Beauty Learner Guides in electronic format, packaged on a single CD-ROM. Licensing There are no licensing requirements that apply to these traineeships. Availability of Registered Training Organisations Training organisations registered to deliver training in New South Wales for qualifications from WRB04 Beauty Therapy Training Package are listed on National Training Information Service.
